Our Story

To help launch the pantry, Christ Memorial Episcopal Church established a partnership with the Hanalei Bay Rotary during the first two years of set-up and operation. The Rotary generously offered volunteers, financing and business advice.  The Food Pantry is now self-sustaining with donations from individuals and foundation grants from across Kauai and from the mainland.

After shopping at the local Food Banks, most often on Friday mornings, volunteers arrive at the Food Pantry office to store the food. On Saturdays, workers from the pantry deliver the food to the parish hall, and begin the set up for the Saturday shoppers around 1:30 or 2 pm, open the pantry to the public from 3:30-4:30, and then are out of the parish hall around 5 pm. Volunteers, who want to be a part of serving their neighbors, come from the church, the Rotary, and the community, including customers who shop the pantry each week.

After two years of operations, in 2017 the Food Pantry had grown to a size where it was large enough to establish itself as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Food Pantry currently continues to distribute food from the church parish hall, and is steadily raising funds to further expand our reach and continue to grow as a community powered organization.

We are so grateful for the support of all the businesses and members of the community that continue to contribute to our organization each day. Without your help this dream could never have become a reality.
